Lung Cancer

Lung cancer develops when the cells of the lung grow in an uncontrolled manner and eventually form a growth (tumour).

1.9% of all newly-detected cancers in Kenya are lung cancers; while 2.7% of the deaths are attributed to lung cancer. 

A risk factor is anything that increases the chances of getting a disease. Here are several factors that increase chances of getting lung cancer:

Chest pain, Persistent Cough (productive of phlegm or mucus), Coughing up blood in sputum….

If presenting with the symptoms listed above; urgently see a doctor.

Staging of lung cancer describes where the cancer is located, if it has spread & whether it’s affecting other body organs.

It is advised to do regular breast self examination. However this does not replace clinical breast examination .
