Prostate cancer can be divided into the following clinical stages

  1. Localized prostate cancer

Tumor is confined to the prostate or tumor with extra capsular extension

No evidence of lymph node involvement or metastasis 

2. Locally advanced prostate cancer

Extension to the seminal vesicles or adjacent periprostatic tissue. Or regional lymph node involvement. No evidence of distant metastasis.

3. Metastatic prostate cancer

Involvement of lymph nodes outside the true pelvis. Spread to non-nodal regions. Most commonly the bone vertebrae. Less common in the lungs, liver and adrenal glands.
